On 22 September 2025, a delegation led by the Director General for the 2025 APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) and Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting (SRMM) paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul. This meeting demonstrated a commitment to fostering mutual understanding in preparation for the forthcoming APEC FMM and SRMM, scheduled to take place at Ocean Tower, Incheon from 20 to 23 October 2025.
The courtesy call provided a valuable platform for the exchange of information and views between the Republic of Korea and Malaysia, underscoring both sides’ dedication to advancing the agenda of regional financial cooperation and structural reform. The delegation from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea articulated in great detail the organisational flow of both ministerial meetings, including the programme structure, key side events such as the Digital Economy Forum and KSP Conference, and the anticipated participation of leading international organisations, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and World Bank.
The Korean delegation conveyed their strong hopes that Malaysia would be represented at the highest ministerial level, reflecting the importance attached to Malaysia’s role as a central stakeholder in the Asia-Pacific region. The upcoming meetings are set to welcome finance and structural reform ministers from 21 member economies, as well as notable policymakers, business leaders, and subject-matter experts. The anticipated presence of ministers from key economies highlights the strategic relevance of the APEC FMM and SRMM as forums for addressing innovation, digital finance, and fiscal sustainability, thereby shaping the future priorities of financial and economic governance in the region.
