On October 13, 2023, Malawakil Seoul had the honor of hosting a courtesy visit from the State Government of Penang, led by YB Lim Siew Khim, Penang State EXCO for Social Development & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs, and YB H'ooi Lye, Penang State EXCO for Local Government, Town, and Country Planning.
The delegation engaged in a fruitful discussion on gender-responsive and participatory budgeting policies, highlighting the commendable efforts of the Penang State Government in promoting gender equality and social justice. This collaborative effort with the Penang Women's Development Corporation (PWDC) sets an inspiring example for Malaysia.
The meeting also explored opportunities for Malaysia to draw from the Republic of Korea's successful strategies and best practices. It is our hope that the success of the Penang Model of Gender-Responsive Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) can serve as a blueprint for federal-level implementation in Malaysia.
