INVESTMENT MISSION BY STATE OF SARAWAK

YAB Premier of Sarawak undertook a two-day working visit to the Republic of Korea from 20 – 22 May 2024. On the first day of the visit, YAB Premier of Sarawak met with H.E. Lee Ho Hyeon, Deputy Minister of Energy Policy, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) where both parties exchanged views and reiterated their firm commitment to further enhance the economic cooperation between Sarawak and Republic of Korea in the renewable energy sector through technology exchanges and various human resources development. Also in attendance was H.E. Dato' Mohd Zamruni Khalid, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Korea (ROK)

 

The delegation then undertook a visit to Yeongheung Energy Park which supplied 12% of electricity consumption in the Seoul metropolitan area. Due to the 2050 Carbon Neutral Strategy of the Republic of Korea, the company is planning to phase-out its coal fired thermal power generation by substituting ammonia as a feedstock and Sarawak will be one of the main exporters of green ammonia to Korea.

 

On the final day of the visit, YAB Premier of Sarawak presided over a briefing on Sarawak New Energy Hub (SNEH) where Samsung E&A presented on the holistic development scenarios for Sarawak as a major producer and exporter of clean hydrogen and derivatives, leveraging on its clean natural resources and proximity to key markets. MIDA Seoul will continue to facilitate the process and liaise closely with the Sarawak Government towards the successful execution of the plan.
