A six-member team of officers and researchers from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) visited the Embassy of Malaysia in the Republic of Korea on 16 August 2012 for a general information sharing session to build up a cooperative relationship between the two sides. KINS is an independent regulatory expert organisation in licensing and regulation of nuclear facilities and related activities. Team leader Ms Hah Yeon-hee, Head of International Cooperation Department, spoke on the functions of KINS, the Korean Nuclear regulatory system and international cooperation activities. Under the MOU between the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) and KINS signed in 2009 close cooperation has been built up with expert exchange programs, technical meetings and annual seminars while currently an official from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency (MNA) is participating in the KINS- KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and technology) M.A. degree program. This month KINS and AELB held a preparatory meeting for the Research Reactor Digital Instrumentation and Control System (ReDICS) Upgrading Project at AELB headquarters in Dengkil, Selangor, Malaysia. Embassy officials at the session included Minister Counsellor, Counsellor, Counsellor (Economic) and Counsellor (Education and Training).
