The cold winter’s day could not dampen the warm spirit and lively atmosphere of the luncheon gathering of Malaysians in Korea hosted by H.E. Dato’ Ramlan Ibrahim, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Korea, and his wife Datin Hafipah at the Residence on 8 December 2012 on the occasion of the launch of the Malaysian Association of the Republic of Korea (MARK). The first meeting to set up a pro tem committee of the association took place a day earlier at the Embassy and the Annual General Meeting to elect the full complement of office bearers is scheduled to take place in January 2013.
Malaysians living and working in Korea and their families mingled with Embassy officers and staff and enjoyed an array of Malaysian dishes. In his remarks at the gathering, Dato’ Ramlan said the association would act as a conduit for the Embassy to get closer to the Malaysian community. An association among Malaysians living abroad is a great way for Malaysians to connect, interact and build bonds of friendship and camaraderie. It will provide a focal point for Malaysians to meet and conduct activities especially during Malaysian festivals and also hold beneficial events. The Embassy encourages the establishment of such associations as they provide a point of contact or link to Malaysians living in the host countries especially when the Embassy hosts functions and events to be participated by all Malaysians. The goal is to build a healthy relationship between the Embassy and the Malaysian community in the host country through the association.
