His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Zamruni Khalid, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Korea, hosted a luncheon at Rumah Malaysia on 29 August 2025, in honour of Professor Kuik Cheng-Chwee, Visiting Research Fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, Republic of Korea.
The luncheon served as a warm and collegial platform to celebrate Professor Kuik’s academic engagement in the ROK and to reaffirm the Embassy’s support for Malaysian scholars contributing to international discourse. Professor Kuik, from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), is widely recognised for his scholarly work on regional security, middle power diplomacy, and Malaysia’s strategic posture in the evolving Indo-Pacific landscape.
During the luncheon, a stimulating and wide-ranging exchange of views took place, covering regional and global developments, with a particular focus on Malaysia’s multifaceted relations with East Asian countries, ASEAN centrality, and prospects for strategic cooperation in a rapidly shifting geopolitical environment. The discussion also touched upon Malaysia - ROK bilateral ties including within the context of Look East Policy.
The Embassy views this interaction as part of its ongoing effort to foster closer synergy between Malaysian academia and policy institutions in Korea, thereby contributing meaningfully to the broader objectives of Malaysia’s foreign policy and public diplomacy.
