The Malaysian contingent to the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics World Winter Games from 29 January to 5 February comprised 15 athletes, six coaches and a Head of Delegation. The team from Special Olympics Sabah and Special Olympics Sarawak participated in ice hockey and snowshoeing at the Special Olympics where people with intellectual disabilities from around the world compete and showcase their skills and talents. Participants from 110 countries competed at the 10th Games held every four years. Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to more than 3.7 million athletes in more than 170 countries. Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of former US President, John F. Kennedy founded Special Olympics in 1968, upholding the rights and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities. Prior to the Games, the Seocho-gu Office in Seoul hosted the Malaysian team on a three-day visit. During the programme from January 26 the team was taken on cultural and educational tours and also spent time training for the games. On the last day of the Malaysian team’s programme in Seoul, the Seocho-gu Office organized a farewell dinner which was attended by the Counsellor from the Embassy of Malaysia, representing the Ambassador.
