Malaysian Ambassador to South Korea Hosts the ASEAN Day Celebration 2009

H.E. Dato’ Ramlan bin Ibrahim, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Korea hosted the ASEAN Day Celebration which was held at the Embassy of Malaysia on Friday, 7 August 2009. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is celebrating its 42nd Anniversary on 8 August 2009. In the RoK, Malaysia is the current chair of the ASEAN Committee in Seoul (ACS), which comprises the Heads of Mission of all ASEAN countries.
Attendees to the ceremony included officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RoK, members of the National Assembly who are also members of the Korea-ASEAN Forum, ASEAN-Korea Centre, private sector, members of the academia as well as the media.
The ceremony began at 10:35 am with the hoisting of the ASEAN flag at the Embassy compound accompanied by the playing of the ASEAN Anthem ‘The ASEAN Way’. The guests then adjourned to the main hall of the Embassy for the reception.
In his welcoming remarks, the Ambassador highlighted the state of the ASEAN-RoK relations over the years and stressed on the important matters of the current ASEAN-RoK cooperation that was agreed to by the Leaders at the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit in Jeju on 1-2 June 2009. He emphasized the significance of the ASEAN-Korea Centre which was established this year that would further consolidate ASEAN-RoK cooperation in many areas. The Ambassador also stressed on ASEAN’s resolve and commitment to build a stronger ASEAN Community by 2015.
