For Malaysians travelling to the Republic of Korea
Confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) have been reported in the Republic of Korea (ROK). To date, there are no travel restrictions to and from the country. ROK officials have placed screening arrangements for travellers arriving or transiting from countries affected by MERS-CoV. Individuals who display symptoms of MERS-CoV will be subject to quarantine by ROK health authorities.

In light of the confirmed cases of MERS-CoV in the Republic of Korea, we would like to advice all Malaysians who are in the Republic of Korea to take precautionary measures.
We recommend the following:
- Practice proper hand hygiene by washing your hands using soap or hand sanitizers.
- Wear a surgical mask when going to public places.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, as of 11 June 2015, the MERS hotline number has changed to 109. It is toll-free and will provide both Korean and English services. The English language service will begin on 12 June 2015
We would like to advice that to minimize exposure or cross-contamination, individuals should avoid unnecessary visits to hospitals, particularly emergency rooms. The risk of exposure may be reduced by using outpatient services for non-emergency care, rather than going to an emergency room for treatment of any mild acute issues.
