On 25 July 2025, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Zamruni Khalid, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Korea, was invited to attend the Naming Ceremony of two newly built LNG vessels commissioned by PETRONAS, held at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo.

The two state-of-the-art LNG carriers were ceremonially named Puteri Selangor and Puteri Terengganu, continuing PETRONAS’ proud tradition of naming vessels after the States in Malaysia. In accordance with maritime customs, the ceremony was graced by Puan Sri Jemilia Md Jelas, who officiated as the Lady Sponsor (Godmother) of both vessels. Her role in the ceremony underscores the long-standing naval tradition of bestowing blessings and safe passage upon vessels at the outset of their journeys.

The event was attended by a distinguished gathering of senior leadership from both Malaysian and Korean stakeholders. Among the key figures present were Mr. Shamsairi M Ibrahim, Vice President of LNG Marketing and Trading, PETRONAS and Mr. Sung-Ick Kim, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, SK Shipping.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul continues to actively support initiatives that further enhance bilateral commercial engagements, including those involving flagship Malaysian enterprises such as PETRONAS. The successful completion and launch of these vessels further affirm Malaysia’s contribution to the global LNG value chain and its ongoing collaboration with the Republic of Korea in advancing maritime and energy excellence.
