The representatives from numerous Asian diplomatic missions were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 26th Asian Athletics Championship that was held on 27 May 2025 at Gumi Civic Stadium. More than 2,000 athletes from 43 Asian countries participated in the championship including 40 athletes from Malaysia. The Embassy of Malaysia was represented by its Deputy Chief of Mission at the said event. Prior to the official programme, members of the diplomatic corps attended a number of side programmes including official luncheon with the Mayor of Gumi, meeting with business communities and universities in Gumi, visits to Samsung Smart Gallery and Park Chung-hee Presidential Museum. The side programmes were tailored towards promoting Gumi as a centre of semiconductor industry in the Republic of Korea.
