50th Anniversary of Malaysia-Republic of Korea diplomatic relations
Seoul Palace Hotel in the south of Seoul launched the Malaysian Food Promotion 2010 on June 3 which continued through June 14 showcasing a wide variety of Malaysian cuisine reflecting the influence of the various ethnic roots of the Malaysian population.
The event was part of the programs being organized by Malaysia in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Korea and Malaysia,
Malaysian Ambassador to Korea Dato Ramlan Ibrahim extended a warm welcome to invited guests and thanked Mr. Lee Jhong Bae, general manager of Seoul Palace Hotel for hosting the event with the collaboration of Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines on the sideline of the Korea World Travel Fair 2010(KOTFA), which opened on the same day at COEX in downtown Seoul for a four-day run.
Expressing his hope that the event would generate awareness among Koreans and expatriates in South Korea on Malaysian food, the Malaysian envoy said that one of the ways to explore Malaysia is through the food.
On hand at the launching ceremony as invited guests were tourism industry players and members of local media as well as Malaysian expatriates in Korea. During the event, invited guests to the event were entertained by Malaysian cultural performances by Kuala Lumpur City Hall showcasing a preview of multicultural dances of Malaysia as well as batik demonstration.
“The culinary journey will give you an insight into the lifestyles, cultures and traditions of the Malaysian people. Malaysian food with its generous use of fresh herbs, spices, chili, ginger and coconut is a complex cuisine that shares many identities with Chinese, Indian and Thai foods,” Amb. Ibrahim explained.
He then introduced a Malaysian chef who has flown into Seoul to prepare various types of Malaysian dishes to ensure the authenticity of the Malaysian cuisine being showcased at the Seoul hotel.
The event was also intended to introduce Malaysian cuisine to the local population here in Seoul at a time when demand for Malaysian cuisines and delicacies in South Korea is rising attracted by multi-racial aspects of Malaysian food and its unique flavors.
At the end of the Malaysian luncheon, Malaysia Airlines handed out two complimentary tickets to Kuala Lumpur for lucky draw winners.
