The Malaysian team ended 25th SEA Games campaign in 4th place in the medal standings with a haul of 40-40-59. Swimmer Daniel Bego was named the Best Male Athlete of the Games with 5 Gold and a Bronze medals. The Men's team regained the football title which was last won in 1989. The women badminton team also ended 32-year gold drought in the team competition.
YB Dato' Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia made two (2) visits to the Lao PDR in conjunction with the 25th SEA Games in Vientiane. YB Dato' Ahmad Shabery also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Phouthong Seng Akhom, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office and President of the National Sports Committee of the Lao PDR on 16 December 2009.

d) YAM Tan Sri Tunku Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, President of Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM)
