On the occasion of the Presentation of Credential Ceremony on 4 May 2017, His Excellency Mohd Aini Atan, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Lao PDR had an audience with His Excellency Bounnhang Vorachith, President of the Lao PDR at the Presidential Palace, Lao PDR.
H.E. President and the Malaysian Ambassador noted the close ties between Malaysia and the Lao PDR. Malaysia and the Lao PDR had successfully celebrated their 50th Anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in July 1966. It is envisaged that the bilateral relations between the two countries would be further enhanced in the future.
H.E. Mohd Aini informed President Vorachith about the former’s visit to Savannakhet province on 22-23 April 2017 (the President’s hometown) to witness the rapid economic progress there. Coincidently, a Malaysian company, Savan Pacifica Development Co. Ltd., is the concession holder to attract and promote investments for Savan-Seno Special Economic Zone, Savan Park (Zone C).
As at 28 April 2017, there are 55 license investors operating in Savan Park SEZ (Zone C) at the investment value of USD132 million.
Both H.E. President and H.E. Mohd Aini also touched on previous exchanges of high level visits between the two countries. H.E. Mohd Aini expressed Malaysia’s readiness to work closely with the Government of the Lao PDR on the possibility of future high level visits involving Head of States of the two countries.
H.E. Mohd Aini also touched on the forthcoming first visit of H.E. Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of Lao PDR to Malaysia on 8-10 May 2017, since being appointed as the Prime Minister on 20 April 2016.
Among notable programmes during the Official Visit are Restricted Meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia; Delegation Meeting to be led by the two Prime Ministers; Malaysia-Lao Business Forum to promote investments in the Lao PDR; and Audience with His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V, the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV.
