A Merdeka Day Reception was held at Don Chan Palace Hotel in Vientiane on 28 August 2009. HE Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR and his wife Mdm. Naly Sisoulith attended the reception together with other ministers, foreign ambassadors, Lao Government officers, Malaysians and other invited guests.
