EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA IN VIENTIANE, LAO PDR
ASEAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FLOWN-IN FROM MALAYSIA
Following the request by the National Disaster Management Organisation of the Lao PDR for humanitarian assistance on 7 September 2019, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) agreed to render humanitarian assistance to the victims of Tropical Storm Podul and Tropical Storm Kajiki.
It is decided for the humanitarian assistance to utilise the readily available stock belonging to Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA) which is stored at the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) located in Subang, Malaysia. The consignment consist of 2,596 hygiene kit, 1,400 jerry can, 1,400 mosquito net, 1,144 kitchen set and 330 family kit.
Towards the above objective, on 10 September 2019, the Honourable Dato' Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia as Chairman of the Central Disaster Management Committee of Malaysia agreed to AHA Centre’s request for the use of Malaysia’s Military Aircraft A400M to bring in the humanitarian consignment to Laos.
The above-mentioned AHA humanitarian assistance arrived at Wattay International Airport on Thursday, 12 September 2019 at 1.00 pm, courtesy of Malaysia’s Military Aircraft A400M. 18 members of delegation was on board the military aircraft to assist with bringing the consignment to Laos.
Upon arrival, the AHA humanitarian consignment was received by H.E. Mohd Aini Atan, Ambassador of Malaysia and other ASEAN Ambassadors or their representatives in Vientiane; Mr. Vilayphong Sisomvang, Acting Director General, Secretariat of NDPCC, Social Welfare Department, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of the Lao PDR as well as representatives from the AHA Centre as a show of ASEAN solidarity.
