SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SUMMIT 2017

SETS TO BECOME MALAYSIA’S BIGGEST BUSINESS EVENT

 

Selangor, the most progressive as well as the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) state in Malaysia, will host a 10-day Selangor International Business Summit 2017 scheduled on 7-17 September 2017 at its capital city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

 

This international gathering is slated to become the biggest business event to be held in Malaysia in 2017, as part of efforts in paving up the state to become a business and trading hub in the ASEAN region - Gateway to ASEAN.

 

With the vision of pushing the state to become a gateway to ASEAN and thereby a global trading hub, the summit will comprise of three (3) main components, beginning with the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017 from 7-9 September 2017; followed by the Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference from 11-12 September 2017; and the Selangor International Expo 2017 from 14-17 September 2017.

 

H.E. Mohd Aini Atan, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Lao PDR address the Malaysia-Lao PDR Business Meeting at Crowne Plaza Hotel Vientiane on 17 July 2017. In his address, H.E. Mohd Aini congratulated the Lao PDR National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) and Invest Selangor Berhad, the investment arm of the Selangor State Government of Malaysia for co-hosting the event. The business meeting with the LNCCI is intended to create awareness and invite business entities in the Lao PDR to participate the Selangor International Business Summit 2017. Mr. Daovone Phachanthavong, Vice President, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered the welcoming address.

 

Selangor is currently the economic powerhouse of Malaysia and generating the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounting to USD 55.5 billion in 2015, which is 22.6% of the total GDP of Malaysia, he said.

 

A presentation was also delivered by Mr. Sven Schneider, Director, Corporate Strategic Planning & Corporate Communication of Invest Selangor Berhad and Dato' Suresh A. Advani Managing Director of Retro Minds Network during the meeting.

 

In almost similar event in 2016, the Selangor State Government, via Invest Selangor Berhad attracted 373 companies from 15 regions globally. The previous Selangor Expo 2016 boosted the opening up of 525 booths that attracted 10,689 visitors. It was estimated that USD23 million transactions were recorded during the event last year.

 

The first component of this year’s summit, the “Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017”, is a global event to showcase Smart & Digital Technologies which would transform cities and economies around the world.

 

It would be followed then by the “Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference 2017”, a two-day Conference which would boost the presence of international speakers, encompassing key industries such as aerospace, food & beverage, life sciences and biotechnology. The   delegates will also be invited to attend a one-day industrial site visit to Pulau Indah a.k.a. Selangor’s Halal Hub and Selangor Bio Bay. 

 

An International Golf Tournament would also be organised as part of the Selangor International Business Summit 2017 programme whereby His Royal Highness the Regent of Selangor has agreed to participate in the event. 

 

“The Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference 2017” would then be wrapped up with the convening of “Selangor International Expo 2017”, which would run for four (4) days featuring two (2) synergetic sectors namely, Life Sciences and Food & Beverages (F&B), as well as halal market segments.

 

The Selangor International Business Summit 2017 is poised to position Selangor towards becoming trading hubs for ASEAN countries - Gateway to ASEAN.
