Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Salam Malaysia Madani and Good morning,
- Before I begin, on behalf of the Government and the people of Malaysia, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on the passing of His Excellency General Khamtay Siphandone, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and former President of the Lao PDR. The loss of such a dedicated statesman, who devoted his life to the advancement of Laos, is deeply regrettable. His significant contributions to the nation’s development, as well as his efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Laos bilateral relations through his official visit to Malaysia in 1992, will always be remembered.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
- At the outset, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR and my fellow colleagues in the Diplomatic Corps in Vientiane, Laos, for the trust they have placed in me by appointing me as the new Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. It is an honour to serve in this capacity, and I look forward to strengthening the relationships within our Diplomatic Corps and with all of you in the years to come.
- Today, we gather in the spirit of unity and joy to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri — a time of reflection, gratitude, and togetherness for Muslims around the world. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is not only a significant religious observance but also a symbol of renewal, compassion, and reconciliation. It marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting and self-discipline, and is an occasion to share blessings with family, friends, and neighbours. It is a celebration of gratitude for the strength gained through patience and faith.
- As we celebrate this beautiful occasion, we are reminded of the strong values that unite us — values that transcend borders and cultures. Malaysia, with its rich diversity, serves as a proud example of harmonious coexistence, where different cultures, religions, and ethnicities live together in mutual respect and understanding. This spirit of inclusivity is what makes Malaysia a truly unique and special nation.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
- I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some important developments for Malaysia on the international stage. As you may be aware, Malaysia is currently the ASEAN Chair for the year 2025, assuming from the Lao PDR. This is a significant responsibility, reflecting our country’s commitment to regional cooperation and peace. We are dedicated to strengthening ASEAN Centrality and enhancing ASEAN's role in creating an inclusive and sustainable Southeast Asia for its people and beyond. As of today, over 50 ASEAN meetings have already been held, with 350 more to go. In May 2025, Kuala Lumpur will host the 46th ASEAN Summit, where ASEAN will once again play a central role in bridging differences for the long-term benefit of humankind.
- In addition to our regional efforts, I am pleased to inform that Malaysia has already launched an exciting initiative — the Visit Malaysia Year 2026. This campaign, which was introduced by the Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia earlier this year, will highlight the best of Malaysia’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern achievements. We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to experience the warmth and hospitality that Malaysia is renowned for. AirAsia flies directly from Vientiane to Kuala Lumpur every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. It takes just 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach Malaysia. Truly, Malaysia is "Truly Asia," where you can discover all that Asia has to offer. Many of our guests here today have had the pleasure of visiting Malaysia. I encourage you to take this opportunity to hear their testimonials about Malaysia while enjoying the delicious Malaysian delicacies we have prepared for you.

- As we celebrate Hari Raya, let us also renew our commitment to building a future of peace, prosperity, and cooperation for all. Together, we can create a world where harmony and understanding prevail.
- I wish you all a joyous Hari Raya Aidilfitri, filled with happiness, good health, and blessings.
