Diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Malaysia in March 1958 and the first diplomatic Mission of the Government of Malaysia was opened in the Strand Hotel, Yangon. The late H.E. Ambassador Bahadun bin Hj. Hassan was the first Malaysian Ambassador accredited to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
