The Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) organised the second Malaysian Healthcare Expo in Yangon on 14 to 15 March 2013 and the first ever Malaysia Healthcare Expo in Mandalay on 17 to 18 March 2013. Various well-known Malaysian hospitals took part in the events, including the National Hear Institute and those under reputable groups like IHH, Sime Darby and PHA. The number of medical tourists from Myanmar to Malaysia increased more than 22% in 2012, compared to the previous year. MHTC is optimistic that the number will continue to grow this year due to the overwhelming response at the Malaysia Healthcare Expo this year.
