MS. TAN HUI MENG, IN YANGON, MYANMAR
The Embassy of Malaysia in Yangon was informed that Ms. Tan Hui Meng a 14 years old Malaysian citizen who was detained in Dawei, Tanintharyi Division and was released to the custody of the Embassy on 6 April 2009.
Ms. Tan was handed over to Mr. Rosfan Ramlee, Third Secetary of the Embassy of Malaysia on 6 April 2009 and thereafter she was handed over to her parents on 9 April 2009.
Release of Ms. Tan Hui Meng was the outcome of the cooperation between the Embassy of Malaysia and the Myanmar authority as well as personal intervention by YB Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Nevertheless, Ms Tan Hui Meng was fined 1500 Kyat (RM 5.40) for illegally entering Myanmar.
While waiting for the arrival of her parents, Ms Tan Hui Meng stayed with H.E Dato’ Mazlan Muhammad, Ambassador of Malaysia to Myanmar’s family.
