TWO peacock-themed kolams will greet shoppers and visitors at Gurney Plaza in Penang from now until Nov 15 in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.Fifteen diploma students of Equator Academy of Art in Penang created the artwork with the help of their lecturer Melvin Arlequi.“This is our third year collaborating with Gurney Plaza and this time around they thought it would be a great idea to have not one but two kolams at the entrance of the mall,” said Arlequi.Diploma in 3D animation student Ong Ee Ling, 21, said it took them a week to finish about 80% of the two kolams.
“The two designs themed ‘Cycle of Blessing’ and ‘A beauty of Freedom’ are in line with the mall’s theme of ‘Captivating Deepavali 2015’.
“We glued the styrofoam parts to the kolam to give it a 3D effect.
“The most challenging
part of the whole process was creating the white outline of the pattern,” said Ong.“
