H.E. Dr Fauziah Mohamad Taib and  staff  of the embassy made a field visit to the largest wind turbine prototyping and certification site in Europe, situated in Lelystad, The Netherlands. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about wind turbine technology - its history, its application, its challenges and future projections for growth.

Prior to the field visit, the group was given a briefing by representatives of the operators of the test site - Ecofys Wind Turbine Testing Services. The Netherlands has had a long history of harnessing wind power - for centuries the Dutch have used wind mills to drain water from low-lying marsh and turn it into arable land. Today, wind turbines play an important role in providing green and renewable energy to meet The Netherlands energy consumption.

The trip proved to be a valuable learning experience and increased Embassy staff's appreciation of renewable technology in the Netherlands.
