Malay weddings are perfect occasions to showcase the richness of Malay culture and traditions. It was fitting then that Rumah Malaysia, residence of the Ambassador of Malaysia to The Netherlands was the recent venue for a traditional Malay wedding in The Netherlands.
Held recently in May, the event was steeped in tradition - from the colourful pelamin to the beats of the kompang and the silat perfomance to welcome the bride and groom. Relatives of the couple as well as other guests gamely joined in for the 'acara merenjis'. Lovely stalks of 'bunga telur' were on hand as traditional party favours for the guests to bring back. Around 300 guests - comprising the local Dutch as well as Malaysians were also treated to a sumptuous buffet as they joined together in good wishes for the couple staring on their married life.
