The first round of discussion on the proposed MoU on the Recruitment, Employment and Repatriation of Workers between Malaysia and Nepal was held on 20 and 21 February 2017 in Kathmandu. The meeting was co–chaired by Mr Govind Bhurtel, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment of Nepal and Mr Kesavan Karuppiah, Deputy Undersecretary, Policy Division (Labour Policy Branch) of Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia. The discussion focused on Malaysia’s draft of MoU forwarded to the Nepalese side on 23 December 2016.
The meeting was conducted in a friendly manner. The fact that both sides managed to organise the first meeting on the formation of the MoU signify a positive development of labour cooperation between both countries.
