WELLINGTON - H.E. Tan Sri Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahman, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia led a delegation to Wellington for the 5th Bilateral Consultations between the Officials of the Foreign Ministries of Malaysia and New Zealand on the 14th February 2013. New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade’s Chief Executive & Secretary, H.E. Mr. John Allen led the New Zealand side for the bilateral talks. The Malaysian delegation also attended the 20th ASEAN – New Zealand Dialogue co-hosted by New Zealand in Wellington from 14 to 16th February 2013.
The bilateral talks are the mechanism for both parties to hold periodic discussions on efforts to enhance and improve the existing cooperation and to identify new area of cooperation. Malaysia and New Zealand have so far enjoyed a close relationship and good cooperation in various fields especially trade and investment, higher education, tourism and agriculture.
The talks also discussed issues of ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and developments in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region.
