48th ASEAN Day Reception in Muscat

 

The ASEAN Committee in Muscat (ACM) under the chairmanship of Brunei Darussalam co-hosted the 48th ASEAN Day reception on Monday, 10 August 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Muscat. The event was graced by H.E. Mohammad bin Yousuf bin Qassim al Zaraffi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sultanate of Oman.

The event was attended by around 150 guests comprising of members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and representatives from the private sector as well as members of the ASEAN communities in Oman. Aside from celebrating the 48th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN, ACM also celebrated the 3rd year of its inception since 2013.

The Chairman of ACM in his opening speech highlighted ASEAN’s success in maintaining collective peace and fostering greater cooperation amongst its 10 member countries for the past 4 decades. He also commended His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Al Said and the Sultanate of Oman for the strong support given to all the activities conducted by the  ASEAN grouping in Muscat.

After the ceremonial cake cutting ceremony, those in attendance were then feted to a grand buffet of Mediterranean food and an array of traditional desserts prepared by the ASEAN countries represented in Oman; Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
