Muscat, 9 April 2013 (MUSCATDAILY) - Oman's top golfer Azaan al Rumhy registered the highest gross score of 152 to lead Oman to its third title victory in the fourth Oman-Malaysia Golf Tournament, organised recently by the Oman-Malaysia Golf Society.
Both Oman and Malaysia fielded 20 players each in the two-day tournament that was played at the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club and Almouj Golf.
With a score of 11.5 against Malaysia's 6.5, Oman won the title back from the Malaysians, who had triumphed last year playing in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia's Nasarudin Mohammed (158) finished runner-up behind Azaan in the gross category, while Oman's Ali Hameed al Saleh (162) took the third spot.
Azaan said, "There was a keen contest over the two days of play and I enjoyed it. I couldn't participate in the previous edition in Malaysia. I am really happy that I helped my team win back the title. It wasn't an easy win as some of the Malaysian players are really good."?
Peter Salleh finished on top in the nett category with a score of 139. Mohamed Shaufi Dahlan (148) finished runner-up and Hamed al Mauly (151) took the third place.
In the woman's category, Yvonne Welling (157) bagged the top nett prize, while Flora Rabar (181) finished runner-up.
The Oman team included Golf Oman chairman Mundhir al Barwani and was led by Sayyid Arqam al Busaidi, while Ahmed Kamal Mahmood captained the Malaysian team that included H E Dato Rustam Yahaya, the Malaysian Ambassador to Oman.
Barwani said, "This tournament is not just about golf. Over the past four years, it has helped the Omani and Malaysian communities come together."
H E Hamoud al Mahrouqi, Head of the Royal Installations, and H E Maitha al Mahrouqi, the Under-secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, were the guests at the event and gave away the prizes.
