An inter-agency meeting with Malaysian agencies accredited to the Sultanate of Oman was held on 15 January 2015 at the Chancery of the Embassy of Malaysia in Muscat. The inaugural meeting gathered Malaysian agencies currently based in Dubai; namely MATRADE, MIDA, Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MPTB) and Agriculture Malaysia Office. All but two agencies; Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) and Education Malaysia (EM) were present at the meeting which was attended by Mr. Remee Yaacub, Trade Commissioner of MATRADE, Mr. Sukri Abu Bakar, Director of MIDA, Mr. Shahid Abu Bakar, Consul of Agriculture Office and Mr. Hafiz Hazin, Deputy Director of MTPB as well as other officers from the agencies and officials of the Embassy.
The meeting was held as a platform for the Malaysian agencies to report on their achievements in 2014 and to update on their proposed programs for the year 2015 in the Sultanate of Oman. The Embassy also took the opportunity to inform the agencies on the programs and initiatives undertaken in 2014 as well as planned activities in 2015 which could be collaboratively organized and participated by the various agencies.
A main event proposed for 2015 is the One Country Exhibition which would be a showcase to promote Malaysia trough the participation and cooperation of various agencies and Malaysian businesses in terms of investment, food, tourism, real estate properties, agriculture, education and many more. It is highly hoped that with the organization of such event Malaysia’s profile in the Sultanate would be raised to a higher level and further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. Other programs to be undertaken in 2015 by the Embassy and agencies would include participation in exhibitions, business and marketing missions as well as visits to industrial and investment facility in the Sultanate of Oman.
During their presence in Muscat, H.E. Ambassador Umardin also took the opportunity to visit and view the Muscat Water Desalination Plant Project together with officers from MATRADE. The project is undertaken by Malakoff Malaysia in collaboration with Sumitomo of Japan and Cadagua of Spain
