H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Rustam Yahaya and YBhg Prof. Madya Datin Dr Musrifah Sapardi hosted a Reception in conjunction with the 54th Anniversary of National Day of Malaysia on 19 October 2011. The event was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Muscat and was attended by more than 300 guests consist of Omani Government Officers, Ambassadors and foreign diplomats based in Muscat, businessmen, representatives of corporate sector as well as Malaysian community in Oman.
The event was graced by the attendance of H.E. Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed bin Saeed Al Maffooz Al Saidi, Minister of Trade and Industry as Guest of Honour. Four Deputy Ministers, among others H.E. Abdullah bin Shaveen Al Husni of the Ministry of Information; H.E. Shaikh Rashad bin Ahmad Al Hinai of the Ministry of Sports Affairs; H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi of the Ministry of Finance; H.E. Ahmad bin Yusuf Al Harithi of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs as well as H.E. Ahmad bin Salim Al Shanfari, Chief of the Department of Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Minister Plenipotentiary Shaikh Sultan bin Saif Al Mahroqi, Chief of Department of ASEAN of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Counsellor Ali bin Sulaiman Al Darmaki, Deputy Chief of Protocol also joined the Reception.
Following the national anthems of both Malaysia and the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Rustam Yahaya invited the Guest of Honour and the other main guests for the cake cutting ceremony.
The guest were also treated to a scrumptious meal prepared by the hotel as well as special Malaysian dishes such as chicken satay, equipped with kuah kacang and nasi impit prepared by the Embassy and variety of Malaysian kuih muih among others cucur badak, kuih koci, seri muka, kiuh baker kemboja, karipap, kek lapis Sarawak, kuih lapis, kek batik, pulut inti, bingka ubi and kuih angku prepared by PERWAKILAN Muscat.
The Embassy also featured an exhibition of books and pamphlets by Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Education Promotion Centre (MEPC) that have despatched their officers all the way from Dubai.
The main feature of the Reception was the Centrepiece. For this year, the Embassy has decided to display of bunga telur, (decorated egg with fabric flower) (pic) which were later on distributed to guests. The guests also enjoyed the aroma of bunga rampai, made from freshly thinly sliced of pandan (screwpine) leaves, assortment of flowers and dashes of rose water with drops of perfume.
