In a fine display of sportsmanship and friendship by both sides, Malaysia won the 7th Oman-Malaysia Golf Tournament that was held in Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Shah Alam, Malaysia, from 7-8 October 2016.
2. The Malaysian team was represented by 24 players, while the Omani side was represented by 19 players whom had flown all the way from the Sultanate of Oman. In total, the Omani team has clinched the trophy four times, while this year’s victory marked the third gain for Malaysia.
3. The friendly golf tournament is held annually through sponsorship from companies in the Sultanate of Oman and Malaysia with the aim of promoting friendship and understanding between the people of the two countries. The main sponsors this year were NGC Energy Sdn. Bhd. (a subsidiary of National Gas Company S.A.O.G.) and Oman Air. Other sponsors include Majees Technical Services LLC, Trowers and Hamlin, UMW Holdings Berhad, Tourism Malaysia, Tourism Selangor, MK Tron Sdn. Bhd., Sapura Group and Al Mouj Golf Club.
4. Since its inception in 2010, the event has been held alternately between the Sultanate of Oman and Malaysia under the patronage of His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil and Gas of the Sultanate of Oman. Over the years, the event has become a solid platform for those interested to establish and widen their business network, especially in the oil and gas industry.
Among those in attendance during the dinner and prize giving ceremony were His Excellency Dato' Umardin Hj. Abdul Mutalib, former Ambassador of Malaysia to the Sultanate of Oman, Mr. Mohamad Taib Ibrahim, Director of Tourism Malaysia in Dubai, as well as representatives from NGC Energy Sdn. Bhd. and other sponsors. A live cultural performance by Tourism Selangor entertained the audience at the prize giving ceremony.
