Muscat, 12 October 2011 - H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Rustam Yahaya received a courtesy call by a group of Malaysian businessmen today. The group was led by YBhg Dato’ Syed Tajul Arif and was joined by seven others. The courtesy call was at the request of Arab Malaysia Development Company LLC, a company established to facilitate the Malaysian companies to find suitable business opportunities in the Sultanate.
During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador shared information on the business, trade and investments opportunities available in Oman. H.E. Ambassador was also briefed by the delegation that they are very interested to look for business opportunities in Oman. IN this regard. H.E. Ambassador affirmed that the Embassy of Malaysia in Muscat was willing to render its assistance whenever required.
Trade and investments between Malaysia and Oman have shown gradual improvements from year to year. In 2010, bilateral trade between the two countries have reached close to RM850 million. In the area of investments, Petronas Carigali has signed an exploration and production sharing agreement (EPSA) Oman Oil Company (OOC) and the Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) and currently operating in the 3,709 sq km Natih/Roba West, Block 63 concession in the Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah regions. Nevertheless there is still need for improvement and it is timely for Malaysian companies to tap the abundance of opportunities available in Oman. The Embassy in this regard is ready, able and willing to assist any Malaysian companies.
