KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- The Information Ministry is to reactivate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman to enhance bilateral cooperation in radio and television programme and news exchange.
Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said Malaysia and Oman inked the pact in 1988 but its objectives had not been fulfilled.
"We're taking measures to revive the MoU as Malaysia and Oman share many similar socio-cultural characteristics," he said after receiving Omani ambassador Aflah Sulaiman Al-Taiee here Tuesday.
Zainuddin expressed hope that the two countries would be able to conduct direct exchange of news in the near future.
"They have their Oman News Agency while we have the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). Currently, news exchange is not done directly but through the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies," he said.
The minister was also hopeful than Oman would contribute to the NAM News Network.
