H.E. Dato’ Rustam Yahaya, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Sultanate of Oman handed over the ASEAN Committee in Muscat chairmanship gavel to H.E. Narciso T. Castaneda in a simple and yet symbolic event on Tuesday morning of 24 June 2014. H.E. Dato’ Rustam ended his chairmanship for a 6 month term from January to June which coincidentally coincided with the end of his tour of duty in the beautiful and sunny Oman by the end of June.
In his final report as the outgoing chairman, he remarked that although there were many activities organized during his tenure, there were many more left unfulfilled due to financial, logistical as well as bureaucratic constraints faced by the group. He expressed hope that the new chairman would be able to continue from where he had left and even uplift further the image of ASEAN in the Sultanate of Oman.
