The 5th Oman-Malaysia Golf Tournament (OMGT), which was held on the 3rd and 4th April 2014 at the Mines Resort & Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia concluded with the Malaysian Team walking away with the Challenge Trophy that was won by the Omani Team in 2013. The Malaysian team led by Mr. Sajali Suip as the team captain also won the Best Gross and the Best Nett categories through Jilan Anak Jenggi (Best Gross) and Damian Anak Jilan (Best Nett).
The 2-day friendly golf tournament between golfers from Oman and Malaysians working in Oman had attracted a total of 42 golfers, including Mdm. Ibtisam Hasan Abdallah, wife to the Ambassador of Oman to Malaysia, Mr. Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association as well as prominent corporate figures from Malaysia.
The prize giving ceremony was held at the Prince Hotel & Residence and was well attended by invited guests, sponsors and golfers in their elegant Dishdashas and colouful Batiks. The dinner was also honored with attendance of H.E. Janab Al Sayyid Fakhri bin Mohammad bin Said, Ambassador of Oman to Malaysia, Dato’ Hj, Azizan Noordin, Deputy Director General, Tourism Malaysia and Datin Dr. Musrifah Supardi, wife to H.E Dato’ Rustam Yahaya, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Sultanate of Oman. Aside from the presentation of prizes to the winners, the highlight of the evening is definitely the beautiful cultural performances by the cultural troupe from Tourism Malaysia.
H.E Dato’ Rustam Yahya, Chairman of the 5th OMGT, in his welcoming speech delivered by Datin Dr. Musrifah, thanked the various sponsors including Oman Air, Tourism Malaysia, OOCEP, TECHNOFIT, UMW Oil & Gas, Interalliance Innovative Technologies Sdn Bhd (I2T), Arab Malaysian Development Company LLC (AMDC), Malakoff Sdn Bhd, BIYAQ Oil Field Services, Oman Oil Marketing SAOG, Trowers & Hamlins, Imagine Technologies, International Business Technologies Development LLC, (IBD), Duta Klasik, Golden Dunes International LLC and MKTRON for their generous sponsorship and support to this annual event. He also thanked the organizing committee for their commitment in making the event a huge success and to the golfers for their sportsmanship during the tournament.
It is hoped that this spirit of sportsmanship would continue in years to come and that the 6th Oman-Malaysia Golf Tournament in 2015 which will be hosted by Oman will achieve greater success and be a much awaited event in Oman and in Malaysia.
