On Monday, 1st June 2014 YBhg. Datin Dr. Musrifah Sapardi played host to about 25 members of the Ambassadors’ Wives Group (AWG) at the beautiful Rumah Malaysia in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. Among those in attendance were the wife of Ambassador of Afghanistan, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand as well as Omani women and the ladies of PERWAKILAN Muscat.
The event was organized to showcase the Malay wedding as well as other aspects of the Malaysian culture aptly called the Malaysian Cultural Display 2014. The display included the complete Malay wedding attire in yellow and gold songket, bungga manggar and bungga telur accompanied by 9 trays of hantaran. Also on display were traditional games such as gasing, lastik, batu seremban, handicrafts, textiles as well as Malaysian delicacies.
All was impressed with the items on display and appreciated the effort by YBhg. Datin Dr. Musrifah in organizing such cultural exchange among the members of AWG. A few AWG members have also shown keen interest to organize similar event at their residence showcasing their unique culture while a representative from an Omani charity group also requested ladies of PERWAKILAN Muscat to teach the underprivileged Omani women in craftsmanship and floral arrangement!
All guests left with a big smile on their faces after being feted to a sumptuous breakfast which consist of nasi lemak, soto ayam, chicken satay, pulut kuning and rendang daging as well as an array of traditional Malay delicacies. Apart from the countless photographs taken with the ‘bride’ and ‘groom’, guests were presented with a gold bungga telur filled with sweets as token of appreciation as practiced during weddings by the Malays in Malaysia.
The event was also covered by members of the media in Oman was published in the Omani newspaper; The Muscat Daily as well as The Week.
