The Embassy of Malaysia in Oman in close collaboration with Malaysians in Oman organized a highly successful and fun filled event aptly called Sukaneka Malaysia 2014 last Saturday, 7 June 2014 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The event was attended by over 200 Malaysians residing in Oman and was held with the aim to strengthen family and friendship bond amongst the Malaysians in Oman.
The inaugural event was also significantly held as a grand farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Malaysia to Oman, H.E. Dato’ Rustam Yahaya whom will end his 3 year tour of duty in Oman by the end of June. Mr. Ahmed Darwesh Al Balushi, Head of the Sports Activity Department at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and Mr. Mansoor Ayoob Al Balushi, Supervisor at the complex were also present to see for themselves the spirit of Malaysia Boleh and to bid farewell to HE Dato’ Rustam Yahaya and YBhg. Datin Dr. Musrifah Sapardi.
HE Dato’ Rustam in his speech thanked the Malaysian community in Oman for their great effort in organizing an event that had gathered so many Malaysians under one roof. He also thanked the community for their support and presence in activities organized by the Embassy and hope that the camaraderie between Malaysians in Oman will be further strengthened and continue for many years to come. As a token of appreciation the Malaysian community presented HE Dato’ Rustam with an Omani sword as remembrance of his 3 year tenure in Oman.
Among the friendly telematches held are the three legged run, penalty shoot outs, reverse run relay, gunny sack run and many others. There were 4 groups; Cencalok, Tempoyak, Budu and Belacan in which Cencaluk emerged the champion and shared a food hamper worth OMR 100 (RM850). The Embassy of Malaysia also took this opportune time to update its database of Malaysians in Oman by having a registration table at the hall.
After all the group prizes were given away and the lucky draw prizes collected by its rightful owners, Malaysians were then served the classic Omani style lunch of Chicken and Lamb Briyani for lunch. This is aside from the potluck dishes the Malaysian families prepared and brought to the hall which filled up space of three banquet tables!. Those joined in the half day activity commended the effort by the committee members and hope that this event would be an annual event for the Malaysian community in Oman.
