Omani-Malaysian Company Joint Venture in Mega-Project

DUBAI, July 10 (Bernama) -- An Omani company Radiance International has teamed up with Malaysia's Transmit Nanyang Engineering Construction to develop a US$500 million mixed-development mega-project in Muscat, a newspaper reported.

Known as Green Acres, the project will include a nine-golf course and driving range, hotels, theme parks, stables and riding schools, shopping centres and residential areas.

Radiance International chairman and chief executive officer, Sayyid Khalifa Bin Taimur Al Said, said that Green Acres would be based on a family recreation concept, aiming to emerge as an international brand.

"Unlike the other tourism projects coming up in Oman, Green Acres is a prototype that can be enjoyed by families. Tourists would be welcome too," he was quoted as saying by the English Daily Gulf News.

The project is expected to create thousands of job opportunities for Omani nationals, he added.

The company is also planning similar ventures in other areas of the country like Buraimi in the north-west, Sohar in the north and Salalah in the south of Oman.

"We may have different partners for these projects," Sayyid Khalifa said.

Oman, a country of more than 3.0 million people, has made plans to diversify its economy and is placing greater emphasis on industries other than oil such as tourism and natural gas.
