Pakistan, Malaysia can improve trade volumes
KARACHI: Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Malaysia currently stands $2.5 billion and needs initiatives for further enhancement. Consul General of Malaysia, Abu Bakar Mamat while meeting with members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said his presence in Karachi was to assess the current trade and business situation between the two countries. KARACHI: Abu Bakar Mamat, Consul General of Malaysia has shown interest in enhancing bilateral trade with Pakistan through promoting tourism.
In a meeting with members of the Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday, he said that both the countries should come forward for increasing the trade quantum through promoting tourism.
He, however, expressed concerns over recent law-and-order situation in Karachi and said that such events discourage tourists.
KCCI members informed the consul general that there is a marked improvement in the law-and-order situation in Karachi, which is the trade hub of Pakistan.
The members highlighted several other avenues where both the countries can enhance their trade volume. They said that Malaysia is facing wheat shortage and it can import surplus stock from Pakistan. The consul general and the members agreed on businessmen visits to identify new avenue to boost trade besides organising exhibitions in both the countries.
