KARACHI, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is getting popular as one of the most common destination for Pakistani students studying abroad, says Consul General of Malaysia in Karachi, Abu Bakar Mamat.
He said the quality of educational experience and world class education system at an affordable cost have attracted Pakistani parents to send their children to pursue tertiary education in Malaysia.
"Some of them want to take the opportunity to enrol in franchise twinning programme from reputable universities in Australia, Europe and the United States at affordable cost," he told Bernama here Sunday.
Abu Bakar said they aware that Malaysia is currently ranked 11th in the World Education Service Report in relation to preferred destinations for higher education and are also being attracted with guaranteed availability of Halal foods and stable environment.
To date, more than 3,000 Pakistani students are studying in Malaysia, he said, adding the consulate would continue to facilitate private and public universities from Malaysia to promote their programmes.
"We will continue to bring Malaysian higher learning institutions to conduct education road show or work shop every year," he said.
Meanwhile, Abu Bakar said about 10 Pakistan and Malaysian universities have established institutional linkages, which allow exchange of researchers, scholars faculty, students and participation in each other's academic activities.
He believed that this positive trend reflects greater movement of people between two countries and helps in promoting mutual understanding of each others' cultures and tourism.
This effort would help the government in making Malaysia as a regional hub with 200,000 international students' enrolment by 2020 as emphasised in the National Higher Education Strategic Plan.
More than 86,000 international students from across Asia and the Middle East came to study in Malaysia in 2010 and the figure has reached almost 100,000 so far, he said.
