Malaysian volunteers delegation calls on Sindh Governor

KARACHI, Sept 7 (APP): A 68-member delegation from Malaysia which included 40 doctors who are currently engaged in relief work in the flood affected areas, called on Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, at the Governor House on Tuesday. The delegation led by Dato Abdul Azeez Bin Abdul Rahim, president of Kelab Putera I Malaysia, a non-government organization (NGO) had arrived in Pakistan on August 29 after hearing about the devastation of floods in Pakistan.

The Governor Sindh appreciated the mission of the Malaysian delegation to render relief work in the flood affected areas of Pakistan. He said that only three weeks ago he had briefed the Consul Generals based in Karachi regarding the devastation caused by the unprecedented floods in the country. Dr. Ishrat very much lauded the quick response from brotherly Malaysia. He also thanked the leadership and the people of Malaysia. In this regards, he also praised the contributions of the Malaysian Consul General in Karachi, Mohd Khalid Abdul Razak, who was also present on the occasion. Dr. Ishrat was of the view that such a people to people contact would help further enhance the friendly ties between Pakistan and Malaysia.
He also apprised the members of the delegation the relief and rehabilitation plan in the flood affected areas in the country. The Governor stated that a rehabilitation strategy is being formulated and that it would be taken up in a more planned manner. The leader of the Malaysian delegation, Dato Abdul Azeez Bin Abdul Rahim, said that the Malaysian Prime Minister, has extended one million dollars towards the flood relief fund. He further stated the First Lady and the Ministers’ wives have pledged 600,000 dollars worth of medicines and other items. The delegation brought with it 200 tons of food items. Rahim said that the delegation started its relief work from Peshawar and also went to Noshewra, Charsadda and helped 6,000 families with food items. He stated that the doctors in the delegation provided medical assistance to 3,000 children. Rahim said that now the Malaysian delegation is in Karachi and will visit Thatta, Dadu and Gharo also. ‘We are here up to September 12 and will mark Eid ul Fitr with the flood affectees in the relief camps’, he added. Rahim said that we want show our support and solidarity to our brothers and sisters. He said that the delegation includes two Pakistanis- Dr. Rafail Hashmi and Dr. Sofia, husband and wife, who hail from Karachi and are working in Malaysia.
