Ladies’ Ramadan Bazaar lines up Malaysian, ASEAN delicacies

DOHA • Embassies representing ASEAN states here yesterday participated in a 'Ramadan Bazaar' at the Malaysian Embassy premises. The event was organised by the Ladies' Association of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia also known as 'Perwakilan Doha'.

“This is the third year of the Ramadan Bazaar and the first time all Asean members are participating in the event. We want the visitors to feel at home and taste typical Malaysian food,” said Zanariyah Alias, Acting Chairperson of Perwakilan Doha. "In Malaysia, there are open bazaars on the street selling typical Malaysian food and clothing,” she said.

Though the majority of stalls were Malaysian, kiosks stalls were also put up by the embassies of Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and Brunei, all selling traditional food, clothing and artwork.

“The Malaysian Tourism Board grants affordable loans to set up restaurants giving a taste of Malaysian food around the world,” said Zahairi Baharim, first secretary at the Malaysian embassy.

With Malaysian restaurants already set up in India and China and Japan, the first Malaysian restaurant in the Middle East is set to be opened at Souq Waqif. "Inshallah, by November, the restaurant will open," he said.

The Ramadan Bazaar will also be held on October 5 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the embassy premises.
