The 1 Malaysia Chinese New Year Open House 2013 was held on 24th February 2013 at the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow. This annual event was organized by the Malaysian Students’ Association in Moscow and the Embassy. H.E. Dato’ Zainol Abidin Omar and spouse, YBhg. Datin Rusamelia Rusland together with Embassy officials and officials from the First Moscow State Medical University were present at the event.
The Open House was attended by over 300 Malaysian students who are currently studying in Moscow. YBhg. Dato’ in his speech mentioned that he was pleased that Malaysian students despite living away from home are still organizing and celebrating traditional celebrations like the Chinese New Year. The Ambassador expressed his satisfaction that Malaysian Students’ Associations throughout the Russian Federation have been active in organizing traditional celebrations that are observed in Malaysia with the participation of all Malaysian students regardless of race and ethnicity. He also took the opportunity to remind the students of their responsibilities to achieve academic excellence and at the same time act as “Duta Kecil” in promoting Malaysia’s interest in Russia.
During the event the guests were entertained with cultural performances by the Malaysian students including the Chinese traditional fan dance, lucky draws and delicious Malaysian Chinese cuisine.
