55TH NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION
On 18 September 2012, Dato’ Zainol Abidin Omar, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Russian Federation and Y.Bhg. Datin Rusamelia Rusland hosted a reception on the occasion of the 55th Year of Malaysia’s Independence at Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel in Moscow. His Excellency Igor Vladimirovich Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation attended the reception as the Guest of Honour. Around 400 guests which included Russian government officials from various Departments and Ministries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, academicians and members of various think tanks attended the reception. Other attendees at the reception were from the Russian corporate and business sectors, Malaysian student representatives and Malaysian citizens residing in the Russian Federation.
Dato’ Zainol Abidin Omar in his remarks touched on Malaysia’s various achievements since its independence 55 years ago. He also mentioned that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Russian Federation 45 years ago, bilateral relations between the two countries have been close and cordial. Malaysia is looking forward to enhancing closer bilateral cooperation with Russia in the fields of trade and investment, tourism, education, defense and high technology. His Excellency V. Morgulov in his congratulatory remarks mentioned that Russia and Malaysia have managed to accumulate considerable experience on constructive cooperation in various fields, based on the traditions of friendship and mutual respect. He also added that two countries could further their cooperation in the field of high technology, including space and telecommunications, development of trade and investment cooperation as well as intensification of tourist exchanges.
During the reception, guests were entertained to a cultural performance by a group of Malaysian dancers from Anggun Production. The invitees to the reception were treated to various Malaysian cuisines such as chicken satay, nasi impit, kuah kacang, curry puff, vegetable spring roll and steamed kuih apam.
