BRIEFING ON GLOBAL MOVEMENT OF MODERATES (GMM)
On 16 October 2012, the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow invited Mr. Khaled Awang, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation to give a talk on the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) to all the Home Based Embassy staff. Mr. Khaled Awang was in Moscow to attend the Second Asia Pacific Forum which was held on 12 October 2012 at the President Hotel. Apart from attending the Forum, Mr. Khaled called on the Director of the Asia Pacific Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and he also met with officials of the Carnegie Moscow Center to promote the GMM. He also made a presentation on the GMM at Moscow State Institute of International Relations of Russia (MGIMO).
During the briefing session at the Embassy, Mr. Khaled elaborated on the functions of the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation and the concept of the GMM. According to Mr. Khaleed, the five (5) basic principles which are propagated by the GMM are peaceful co-existence, governance and rule of law, finance and economy, education as well as conflict resolution. Malaysian Embassies are being requested to help disseminate information regarding the GMM to foreign governments, think tanks, academicians and NGOs. The briefing session was followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session.
