The Embassy of Malaysia in the Russian Federation hosted the Intra-ASEAN Darts Tournament on Saturday, 25 July 2009 as part of the activities organised by the ASEAN-Moscow Committee to commemorate ASEAN's 42nd anniversary this year. The tournament, which used a highly modified version of the American cricket rule, saw a total of 56 first-timers, amateurs and semi-professionals from 8 embassies pitting their skills against one another.
In the end, the combined team from Brunei and Vietnam won the tournament after fending of the challenge from tournament favourites from Philippines/Vietnam. DCM En. Razak Wahab and the DCM of Thailand managed to come in third after edging Ms. Aminah Yassin and her Thai dart partner in the 3/4 match.
Apart from the Darts Tournament, the Embassy of Indonesia hosted the badminton and table tennis meet at the Bauman Sports Centre on 11 July 2009. The event saw 6 categories being played, 3 for each sport i.e. men's single, men's double, mixed double. Mr. Firdaus Omar and his Indonesian teammate managed to cruise into the badminton semifinals before being denied by an all-Indonesian double. The Lao Embassy also played host to the game of Pétanque on 18 July 2009. The game which is popular in France, is almost similar to lawn bowl. The game requires each player to precisely place the metal boule, which weights around 690 grams, nearest to the jack. At the same time, players can also knockout the other team's boule to increase their scoring chances. Ms. Jamaliah Sarkom and her Vietnam teammate bested the Philippines onslaught by winning the final match 7 to 3.
The final event to commemorate the ASEAN anniversary would be the ASEAN Day Reception and Food Festival. The event is scheduled to be held at the GlavUpDK Cultural Centre on 6 August 2009.
