The St. Petersburg State Marine University was unable to participate this year due to unforeseen circumstances.

Ambassador of Malaysia to the Russian Federation, Dato' Mohamad Khalis in his opening speech praised the students for working together and dedication in ensuring that the Games continue to be a tradition among the Malaysian students in Russia. Dato' Ambassador also was proud that Malaysian students have portrayed the true spirit of Malaysia's multicultural society in Russia by  harmoniously living and with each other over the years.

The Intervarsity Games has been an annual affair for Malaysian Students in Russia since 2005 when it was first held at the Moscow Medical Academy (MMA). Volgograd was the Games' 2nd host in 2006. It is the only annual sport event organised by foreign students which combines participation from various universities in Russia and is fully supported by the universities' administration.
