On 21 December 2025, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, Chairman of the Energy Commission Malaysia and Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, arrived in Jeddah—the gateway to the two holy cities, Makkah and Madinah—and immediately held a pre-council session with His Excellency Dato’ Syed Mohamad Bakri Syed Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He led the Energy Commission (ST) delegation in a technical visit to the Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) and the Solar Power Plant owned by ACWA Power, the world’s largest renewable energy company based in Saudi Arabia.
