CHARITY DRIVE FOR CANCER

Mr. Max Chong Kam Kok, a solo cyclist, who is on a mission to cycle from Ipoh to Hanoi arrived in Bangkok on 1 November 2008. The current effort would take Mr. Max across five countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam) with the distance of almost 4320km. The mission, under the patronage of Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) is aimed at collecting funds for MAKNA for the noble use to help those who need assistance from MAKNA as well as to create awareness about healthy life habits. Perwakilan Bangkok had organised a simple ceremony to welcome Mr. Max and the delegation from MAKNA who had arrived a day earlier as a form of the Embassy’s support to the noble cause spearheaded by them.
Mr. Max whose brother is a cancer patient himself is determined to complete his mission and had expressed his hope that more generous corporate sponsorship would be made available to him once he prepares himself for the second leg of his mission, namely, to cycle to Beijing in the near future.
The simple ceremony was attended by members of Perwakilan, Malaysian community in Bangkok as well as the Embassy’s staff. In the words of Mr. Max, he was deeply touched with the warm response given by the Embassy and the encouragement given will serve as the very much needed inner strength to complete the mission. Those present had also generously donated to MAKNA including a handsome amount from Kelab Malaysia Thailand through its President, Mr. Bobby Thai.
