GET-TOGETHER NEW YEAR CELEBRATION 2009

31 DECEMBER 2008

The Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi of the Embassy had once again organised another social event on the eve of the New Year’s Day 2009 at the compound of the HBS Apartments at the Embassy. The celebration was attended by more than 60 HBS and LRS led by TYT Dato’ Husni and Datin Norshiha. Few Malaysian students in Bangkok were also spotted among the crowds.

2.         While the celebrations, customs and traditions of New Year vary from one place to another, the main purpose of the celebration organised by Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi was more to strengthen the solidarity and the spirit of togetherness among the work force at the Embassy including, of course, their family members. Forget about the fancy parade, midnight cacophony or the booze bash, the celebration of New Year’s eve at the Embassy was held in moderation and meant to enable the staff to wind-down and enjoy the garden-like atmosphere with a good spread of Malaysian cuisines served at one side of the garden.

3.         A party without music would be incomplete. A number of staff had risen to the occasion by grabbing the microphone and serenading the audience with their silky but rather rusty voice over a choice of songs representing different generations. Perhaps, it is about time for the Kelab Sukan dan Rekreasi to seriously consider arranging vocal classes for them in order to allow them to better serenade the crowd for future events. The party ended at 2300 hours of local time which was equivalent to the strike of midnight in Malaysia though some stayed on to watch the fireworks from the neighbouring areas.
